About me
My name is Katie Hallam. My pronouns are she/her and I live in Aotearoa New Zealand as Tangata Tiriti.
I began my creative practice in 2018.
I observe the patterns around me, resulting in works that scrutinise the relationship between the natural world and our human interventions. I work in an experimental and playful way with printmaking, drawing, painting, collage and sometimes jewellery. I take inspiration from colour, nature's patterns, obsolete structures, folklore, mythical beasts, weird music, layers and black ink.
I feel strongly about connecting communities through the arts and creativity.
My work has been described as "dark and philosophical", light, and as having a strong sense of place.
I live in rural North Canterbury, a region of the central eastern side of Te Wai Pounamu (South Island of New Zealand) with my family, dogs, chooks and plants. I was born in the East Midlands of England and spent a decade living in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
